Wake Forest 85 -vs- NC State 78

Mike and I had the opportunity to attend our first Wake Forest Basketball game last Thursday (vs NC State). The therapy department was given 6 front row, center court tickets. We went with 2 of my coworkers (Beth and Evelyn), the son of another coworker (Tyler), and a good friend (Jim). It was a lot of fun and we are certainly hooked!

I'm placing bets that Mike will have season tickets bought the first day they are open to the public.... I'm guessing we won't have seats this good though!

What A Week We've Had!!!

This week has been full of more heartache and illness and we're ready for it to end!

We started the week off with a phone call from the school... Chase was throwing up! Yucko! Mike drove to get him at noon and he was home for two days recovering. Since then he's been somewhat grouchy and super sleepy, but is recovering slowly and even went to Tween ROCC Youth tonight at church.

Paige decided she'd like to visit the doctors at Baptist Hospital again. This time she got to have a biopsy/culture of the mess that's growing like wildfire on her neck. She did fabulous and in the end it was indeed originally a fungal infection and has grown deeper into a bacterial infection. We took her to the pediatrician SEVERAL times but each time we were told it was nothing, don't worry, blah blah blah! Our new doctor took one look at it and sent us right to dermatology 2 weeks ago and finally, as of today, we have our answer and she's on 4 medicines to heal it once and for all.

Devin... oh Devin! He's a teenager so he thinks he's invincible! He decided to go against doctor's recommendations and he attempted to run track practice this week. Keep in mind the kid is only less than a month out of a walking cast from a tib-fib ligament injury he had before Christmas. Well... three days of track practice and he was limping off the track field in pain! So, we await yet ANOTHER ortho consult and track season for him is done! End of story! He's mad, but he'll get over it!

Last is Kayleigh. She's had the hardest week of all. A friend of hers from school took her own life on Wednesday night. She was just 14 years old. Kayleigh is trying hard to process it all and find a way to deal with her feelings. She's finding comfort in knowing our God is a just, loving, and merciful God and only He knows what this girl was dealing with physically, mentally, emotional and what she facing. He is a fair God who loves us all.

This weekend will be such a time of relaxation for all of us and we're looking forward to it and spending time together as a family on Sunday.

Happy Belated Valentine's Day

Mike and I had a great Valentine's Day Weekend... even though we typically don't celebrate "Valentine's Day"... we both agree it's more of a glorified Hallmark Holiday than anything else...

Anyhow - Saturday evening we were able to get out see a movie... I wanted to see "He's Just Not That Into You". The verdict was "we just weren't that into it". From there we went to dinner in Clemmons at Ruby Tuesday's. We were the only people in the restaurant so it was fantastic!

Sunday we started the day at ROCC worship then took the kids and headed to Charlotte. We don't get a chance to take them all shopping often, so it was quite a treat for everyone. We made sure that they each were able to buy something. After shopping Concord Mills Outlet Mall we had dinner at TGIFs complete with appetizers and slushy drinks for Chase and Paige.

The best part of the evening was Super Target... Why?, you ask. Well that's where we bought the kids a Wii right before their very eyes and they had no idea!! It was so funny! Devin even carried the bag out to the van.... clueless! After we got back home, Mike took it out of the bag and their jaws about hit the floor! Too funny!

So - there ya have it... Valentine's Day Weekend with the Lyons Family! We hope everyone enjoyed their weekend like we did.

Prepping for Spirit Week...

This week is Spirit Week at Paige and Chase's elementary school. Kayleigh and her friend Ashley decided to give Paige a few tips and even let her do a dress rehearsal for Tacky Day and Decades Day... For Decades Day she chose "The 80's", a good choice in my opinion! Here's a few snapshots of our little Diva prepping for the big week...

Our Prayer...

Father God, we know that all things happen in your time in your way. We know that your love is with Jim, Jenni, and the kids as they are apart during this time of transition. We ask that you provide them with strength to know your will is being done, and give them encouragement that they will be together again soon. Father we ask that you guide the right person to their home this afternoon and let that person see what future is there, how much love has filled that home and provide the right person with a vision that they will be as happy there as Jim and Jenni have been. We ask that Jenni and the kids move to North Carolina to be with Jim comes quickly and smoothly. Father we also pray that you use their time apart as an experience for their relationship to strengthen and their love to be even stronger as a family unit. We ask these things in His name. Amen.

Please Pray With Us...

Bumping this prayer request up.... Open house is tomorrow afternoon.

Many of you know that good friends of ours, Jim and Jenni, have been in the process of moving to North Carolina for the last year. Jim started his new job in North Carolina at Hugh Chatham Hospital last week, leaving Jenni and the kids back in Ohio until their house sells. The kids are not handling it well, and Jen is doing all she can to stay strong and maintain a normal routine without breaking down.

Next weekend, they will host their second open house with a new price on this gorgeous home (it takes a long time to load, be patient!). Please pray that the right family will walk through their home and it will be sold so that the family can be quickly reunited. Also, join with me in prayer for Jenni and the kids to remain strong and united during these difficult days.

Thank you!!!

Winter Blast 2009...

Yep... that's what the news is calling it... a "Winter Blast"!!

Schools were canceled by 9pm last night because the weather was getting so bad! Mike and I were out and traffic was a mess... sometimes down to 10mph, at one point we really were wishing we would have stayed home. We finally made it safely to the mall after dinner where multiple stores were closed with signs on the gates saying "closed due to inclement weather conditions"
!

What was that? You were asking how much we actually got? Well... it's hard to say... my guess would be half an inch give or take an eighth. Big stuff I tell ya! It did leave the trees in our woods and front yard absolutely beautiful! Too bad it all melted by 9am today...

One of these days maybe we'll see some REAL snow!

60 Degrees Monday, Snowstorm Tuesday...

It snowed here tonight... "big white fluffly Indiana flakes" is how Mike describes it. The kids are excited, especially Chase and Paige. They couldn't wait to catch snowflakes on their tongues!! They'll love it even more if we get the 3 inches they're calling for. My money's on a big fat "nope". Guess we'll just have to wait and see...

I'll update tomorrow because I'm sure everyone is waiting with breathless anticipation...

Yes, Another Broken Bone!!!

Yep - Devin's done it again!

Take a look at his left index finger in the lower picture... I think he's trying to set a record for the number of broken bones and major injuries while living under a parent's roof! Here's to hoping he doesn't actually BREAK the record!!

As the story goes... he was playing an awesome game of basketball where he was totally kicking some butt.... the ball hit him and he felt it jam, figured it was ok, and just continued to play before he realized it was twisted and bent and then all of the sudden hurt really bad!! I'm sure it wasn't quite THAT dramatic... but it's definitely broke! Good thing Mom works in Occupational Therapy and has splinting materials here at home!!
