Kayleigh Does Karaoke!!

This post is a tad late - but better late than never. The Youth Group at our church had Karaoke night last Friday. Kayleigh and a friend, Rosemary, went. These are a few pictures of MY daughter singing in front of a crowd of kids! See... she can come out of her shell once in a while! LOL!

Friday's Favorite Five

Sorry about missing a week! Had a few comments asking what happened! Quite honestly - I've just been too rundown and sick!!

So . . . here ya go!

1) Drugs!! (hee hee!) Seriously! I am sooooo very thankful for the wonderful Tussionex that my doctor prescribed for me to help me sleep at night with this pneumonia! I slept straight through the night for the first time in 5 weeks this week!!

2) Sleep. See Number 1 LOL!!

3) Devin: Mike's had to work a lot of nights recently - and as sick as I've been, Devin has really shown some serious maturity! He's even helped me in and out of bed a few times. What a good kid we have! (He'll smack me when he reads this on our website!!)

4) Paige's graduation was another favorite this week. I almost didn't get to go - but slapped a smile on my face and went along anyhow. I'm so glad I did! It was so fun to watch her up on stage singing, dancing, and so proud of her accomplishments!

5) Again- my husband! Once again - he's had to step up and take over the house. I'm sure he's getting sick of it - but he never complains!

Hope you had a great week!

Paige's Pre-School Graduation

We attended Paige's Sunshine House Preschool Graduation last night, held at Hope Moravian Church in Clemmons. Believe it or not, I didn't cry!! It was so cute to watch them all up on stage in their caps and gowns! They sang and danced to 3 songs before receiving their diplomas. As you can see in the pics - she was proud as can be!

NEWSFLASH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am hijacking this blog for breaking news! Michelle and I are officially POLAR OPPOSITES!

I know that this may come as a shock to those of you that know us both personally (dws), but we now have scientific proof to back it up. I took the exact same personality tests as Michelle (see link in the post below), and we tested as exact opposites in pretty much every category and strength.

I now return you to whatever nonsarcastic blogging my wife has to contribute.

My Personality!!

This was fun to do!

The ESFJ means I love people, I value relationships, am sociable, am a nurturer, respect rules, and am very practical.

The Multiple Intelligences means I have a strategy for everything, I enjoy people, I learn by doing and touching.

In both of them Management and Physical/Occupational Therapy are key jobs for! Imagine that! Right on considering I work in Occupational Therapy as the Rehab Manager!!

Surgery is Scheduled

My surgery is June 10th in the afternoon. Dr. Harper promised me lots and lots of pain meds!! Hope he follows through!

Wish Me Luck!

Yep - I'm sick AGAIN! This makes round 4 since the middle of October. I'm the proud carrier of tonsillitis, strep, and bronchitis this time. I'm on another round of Z-pac, my good friend Hycotuss, and lots of Ibuprofin. Last night - the fever was so high and pain was so bad I couldn't stop shaking for over an hour!

I'm finally giving in to Mike and going tomorrow for an ENT surgery consult. I'll go see Visit Dr. Harper tomorrow at PENTA. He's the same surgeon that did Paige and Kayleigh's tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy last fall. Maybe we'll get a buy 2 get 1 free deal!

Honestly - I'm scared to death after reading and hearing about horror stories of adult tonsillectomies: extreme pain, excessive bleeding, extended time off work, etc. But - I know it's the right thing to do and I have the most supportive, compassionate, caring husband to take care of me afterwards!

Update on Paige

Every once in a while we get a brutal reminder that she was a premature baby who spent several weeks in a NICU before coming home on many monitors and medicines! That's what happened Saturday night. She's doing great now!

We talked to her doctors this morning, and they're going to up some of her meds. She's been on the same dose of Singulair for just over 2 years - she's also been on the same dose of Flovent for just over a year. Hopefully - this will do the trick and we won't have another night of chaos!

Gonna Be A Long Night!

About an hour ago (around 12:30am) I heard a funny noise upstairs, then Andy barking. I ran upstairs to find Paige in the bathroom in a full-blown asthma attack, panicking, and turning grey. She was banging on the side of the tub real hard (probably to get my attention). I screamed for Kayleigh to ge the neb started for me - it helped and she finally regained some color and settled down.

She's now laying on her mat on the floor of our room (by me) quite restless. She's wheezing so loud and holding her breath on and off, so I can't rest either! She's also got the tell-tale seal bark croup cough now - which tells me she needs the oral steroids in addition to her regimen of daily Singulair and twice daily Flovent. Been this road many times before with her!

I called Mike at work - we're hoping to avoid the ER and get through the night. It's gonna be a LONG night!!
____________________

Update 2:00am: after a second Albuterol neb treatment she's resting very peacefully and breathing pretty good. Still wheezing, but not holding her breath and not restless. She is sleeping - so I'm going to try to get some sleep. We'll call Dr. H. in the morning.

More Strawberries!!!

We spent time this afternoon picking strawberries in our back-yard strawberry patch . . . AGAIN! We pick a bucket of strawberries every few days and it seems as quick as we pick them, another big bunch of them start to grow!!

We're running out of ideas! We have frozen sliced strawberries, strawberry sauce, strawberry jam, strawberry dessert, whole strawberries, and we're about to make strawberry pie! A friend of mine is sending me a recipe for strawberry cake and strawberry bread.

We're about burnt out . . . but it makes for fun Saturdays as a family!

Friday's Favorite Five

1) Sitting on our back swing has been amazing. The trees are now fully green, the birds and squirrels are everywhere - it's so peaceful. I love sitting outside, or in my room looking out the big picture windows. Makes all the crazy things that happen throughout the day seem so meaningless in the bigger scheme of things.

2) Our vacation plans were finalized this week and the dates have been crossed off as "taken" on the website of the cabin we're renting with the Taylor-Schroeder family. We're so excited about spending time with them this summer.

3) Mike and I have had a lot of fun this week helping Kayleigh with her final middle school project - a full report with music, phots, display boards, and more on "The 70's". Introducing her to disco music, the "afro" hair-do, the group Queen, and more has had us laughing every night! Who knew a major school project could be so much fun!

4) The new Narnia movie was released this week. Although it took my husband out of the house for two nights because of problems building the movie at the theatre, the kids are excited about it! It's fun to see them so eager to see a movie!

5) Last for the week - more on a serious note - I feel like I witnessed a miracle this week! One of my very favorite patients, I'll call her Mrs. G., had a terrible fall this week. She's in her 90's and has been so very confused in recent weeks with declining strength, endurance, and health. After her fall - I was in shock! I have NEVER seen that much blood in my entire life. Looking at it - I thought to myself - how on earth is she still here with us! After several sutures in her head, lacerations in the lower eyelids even having bloody tears, bruises everywhere, face swollen with fluid and blood - she miraculously came through this, and is more "with it" than she has been in weeks! Mrs. G. was literally days from becoming a hospice patient. Since this fall she is walking, talking, and progressing again. It's as if she had the sense and strength knocked back into her when she fell. What an amazing, awesome reminder that there is a strength so much more powerful than us out there and WE cannot control when SHE goes Home to Him, only He does.

Hope you all had a great week!

Time to Get Serious!

(5/17: Edited to add - Mike was shewing me away with his hand b/c he didn't want his picture taken)

With our vacation to the Canaan Valley/Blackwater Falls Mountains just over 9 weeks away - Mike and I decided it was time to get serious about getting back in shape! We're going hiking, rock climbing, and white water rafting with our good friends, Dawnya and Neal. They hike and climb pretty regularly . . . Mike and I haven't done it in YEARS!! If we expect to keep up and have a blast with them . . . we have GOT to work our tail ends off now!!!

I started a while ago when I joined Curves, going 4-5 nights a week and Mike gets beat by the boys playing basketball several nights a week. We also sold our elliptical (that we both hated!) and bought a treadmill a few weeks ago. We're breaking it in pretty good by walking and jogging on it nightly. We've even wrapped the platform of it with thera-band so we can slip the laptop under it securely and watch the baseball games while we're working out (take a close look at the picture!!)!

We're on the right track. Now . . . if we could just eliminate the late night snacks we'd be all set!!!

This is Why I Love My House!

We live back in the woods now and we LOVE it!! We have a walkout bedroom on the lower level of the house with a swing right out the back door. THIS is our view tonight! The flowers are also in full bloom making it so serene to just sit out there quietly in the evening. Absolutely gorgeous!!

Happy Mother's Day, Mom!

Mom, we miss you so very much
On every Mother’s Day;
And not just then, but every minute,
Since you went away.

You were the center of our lives
Before your soul passed on;
It’s just so hard for us to believe
That you are really gone.

But we celebrate the life you lived
And all the things you gave us;
Our wonderful memories, Mom, of you
Are the things that will comfort and save us.

Please think of us, as we think of you
With hearts so full of love;
We’re looking up at you, sweet Mom,
As you look at us from above.

That's Our Chase!!

Had to share this picture of Chase! It totally shows his personality! Thank you, Grandpa Lyons, for sending it to us!!

Enjoy!

Friday's Favorite Five

The Roof Over Our Heads!! After last nights multiple tornados, severe storms, destroyed housing additions, destroyed farmers market, tossed airplanes, and more - we are VERY thankful to still have a roof over our heads!!!

Family - We had Mike's family here this past weekend and made many new memories! It was the first time his sister has been here and the kids were able to meet Mike's brother's fiance. We had a lot of fun!

Faith - Mike's family was here to celebrate with us as our two middle children, Kayleigh and Chase, took their next step in Faith at our church with their First Communion. We're very proud of both of them and look forward to watching them, and our other two children continue to grow.

Chase's Health! His latest lab reports came back GREAT! His counts are back down where they need to be and he's looking well also. We're very fortunate to have a wonderful team of doctors who were able to stop this episode before it got out of control.

Last - central air makes our list! Why you may ask. Well, because it's hot and it works!! We actually had to call someone this week because the air wasn't working. Or so we thought. Boy did we both feel like big dummies when we found out it was because the breaker switch had been tripped!!!!! But hey - we're cool now . . . LOL!

That's it. We had a great week! Hope you all did too!

Tornados Everywhere!!!

Yikes! We're all camped out in Mike & I's basement bedroom suite as a result of multiple tornados and storms. There are - at this exact moment - 9 tornado warnings surrounding us!! Here's what the radar looks like:

(we live right in the middle - Lewisville)

If you know me at all - you know I am TERRIFIED of storms, let alone tornadoes!! Gonna be a long long night!!

This is everyone camped out in our room!!

Family Picture At Church Sunday

Here's our family picture taken in the church gardens Sunday after the First Communion mass. Wanted to share with everyone!

Update on Chase

We got news today that Chase is in the clear and doing great! His blood counts are back down to where they should be and we can discontinue his aspirin.

Yeahhhhh Chase!!!

First Communion Weekend

Kayleigh and Chase celebrated the Sacrament of First Communion at our church this weekend. It was a fun mass and we all enjoyed watching all the kids receive their First Eucharist. We were very proud of them for taking this step in their Faith.

Mike's family was able to come and spend a few days with us and then attend church today as well. The kids had a great time! Paige loved having her cousin, Jack, here for the weekend to play with! Uncle Jason's fiance came and got to know the kids as well - she was a huge hit! I think it's safe to say they'll have no problem calling her Aunt Megan next month!!

Friday's Favorite Five!

Working the Week: I actually worked all week without getting sick or having to leave because one of the kids is sick!! Been a while since we've had such a healthy week! Gotta say - by the end of the week I was exhausted though!!

The Groomer: The gal at Aristocuts is on my list this week because she bathed my Andy and was able to get all his shedding hair off! I tried bathing Andy not long ago - I've decided it's best left to the professionals! She did a great job and Andy made a new friend with her. He absolutely loved the "spa treatment" he got while there!

Family: Mike's family is here this weekend for Kayleigh and Chase's First Communion at our church. They made the drive from Ohio and are able to spend two and a half days with us as we celebrate with the kids!

Two Date Nights: Mike and I always have our weekly "date night". It's something we started before Chase was born and it helps us stay in touch with eachother without the kids around. Well this week - I got TWO date nights!! Tuesday evening we went to dinner and then out to see Baby Mama at the theatre. Then - last night I got to go out and pre-screen Made of Honor with him. Movies were fair - but our time together was wonderful!

My Patients: I lost one of my favorite patients this week. She was a lady that was mean as snot to me while she was in my rehab unit, but I could see past that and knew deep down she was a wonderful lady. We were able to rehab her fractures, but unfortunately her cancer spread and she went home on hospice two weeks ago. I was able to be a part of making her strong enough to go home and live out the last few weeks of her life with her family in her home. This is WHY I do what I do!

So - there ya have it - my favorite five for the week!

G' Nite
